FM Projects
At Mount Royal University, projects are guided by the University's Strategic Plan, Space Management Policy and Campus Master Plan, and are executed by the Facilities Management.
We are committed to providing a high-quality learning and working environment for all students, faculty, and staff. Through our projects, we aim to create sustainable, energy-efficient, and technologically advanced facilities that meet the evolving needs of our community.
Current Projects
Energy Efficiency Upgrades: We are implementing a range of energy-saving measures, such as LED lighting upgrades, HVAC system retrofits, and building automation systems, to reduce our energy consumption and carbon footprint.
Campus Accessibility Improvements: We are working to make our campus more accessible and inclusive for individuals by upgrading accessibility features such as service desk heights, restrooms, and ablution stations.
Capital and Renovation Projects: We are renovating classrooms, labs, and collaboration spaces around campus to provide a more modern and comfortable teaching and learning experience for our faculty and students, including upgraded furnishings and technology.
Sustainability Initiatives: We have implemented a range of sustainability initiatives, such as recycling programs, solar panels, and combined heat and power units to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.
Campus Safety Projects: We are continuously upgrading security systems on campus such as fire alarm infrastructure and support systems, help phones, interior and perimeter card access, and outdoor lighting to ensure code compliance and provide added safety for our community.
Featured Projects
W Wing Vacated Spaces
Location: Main Building, W Wing
Completed: August 2022
The former Conservatory space in W Wing has been converted into four new classrooms, including two 78-student standard classrooms, a 56-student flexible learning space, and a 56-student active learning classroom, along with study alcoves in the main corridor. These modern and functional student spaces cover approximately 1,000 square meters and were completed in summer 2022.
Recreation Customer Service Desk
Location: Main Building, U Wing
Completed: June 2022
In an effort to better serve our members and become a more inclusive environment, we have improved accessibility through significant alterations to the Customer Service Centre reception desk. Upgrades include lowering the counter for someone sitting in a mobility aid, increasing the entry and exit gates size for better access, and integrating mobile OneCard access.
Trico Changemakers Studio
Location: Bissett School of Business
Completed: January 2020
The Studio is 4800 square feet of open, flexible and beautifully designed space located on the third floor of the Bissett School of Business. Meeting rooms, hot desks, workshop, collaboration, and event spaces have been designed and constructed to complement spectacular mountain views and gorgeous natural light. Bissett Data Analytics Lab
Location: Bissett School of Business
Completed: October 2019
The EB1112 computer lab and study space has been converted to a data analytics lab available for over 1,000 students enrolled in business school programs and other professional programs. The Supply Chain Management program, through the sponsorship from CN Rail, is the lead program to integrate data sets from the Thomson Reuters software. 12 new workstations and a teaching station have been installed, along with new projectors and pull down screen. Signage, paint, minor flooring, and furniture were upgraded. Learn more about the space here.
