Creative Writing, Level 1
Explore your ability to write in a supportive atmosphere as you discover the elements of fiction writing. Discover how to use plot, voice, theme, setting and characterization successfully. Gain valuable feedback on your writing and discuss excerpts from a selection of successful published stories. 

Creative Writing, Level 2
Discover techniques for creating compelling characters, settings and plots, explore the freefall approach to writing, and discuss how to market your writing. Gain valuable feedback from others and hone your editing skills.
Note: We strongly recommend completion of Creative Writing, Level 1 before registering in this course.

Writing for Children and Young Adults
Explore the process of writing books for children and young adults aged 8 to 12. Focus on structure, character development and research, and their importance in your stories. Examine how to turn a creative story idea into a marketable, finished manuscript.

Writing Articles to Publish
This workshop shows you where to find ideas and turn them into a marketable venture. Half the class is spent exploring short non-fiction from concept to draft, the other half discussing how markets work. Ideal for novice writers wishing to write for the magazine market.

The First Three Chapters
The first three chapters of any book-length work, fiction or non-fiction, are critical in determining the direction for the rest of the work, as well as capturing the attention of potential publishers and readers. Through discussion and feedback, explore approaches to make those chapters the best they can be. 
Note: We strongly recommend that you complete Writing Articles to Publish or Creative Writing, Level 1 or have equivalent writing experience prior to registering in this course.

Fundamentals of Scriptwriting
Dreamed of writing for film, TV or theatre? Discover the fundamentals — not just theory, but roll-up-your-sleeves writing exercises. Discuss dramatic conflict, scene structure, dialogue and format — especially film format. Previous writing experience is an asset, but not a requirement. The instructor is a film, TV and theatre veteran with 35+ play productions across North America.
Note: Limit of 14 students.

The Basics of Blogging   
Learn how to choose a topic for your blog, develop or improve your blog design, create meaningful content and, finally, attract an audience to your blog. As well, discover how to protect your blog from hackers.

Writing Lives into Stories
Interested in writing a life story? Create a balance between matters of the head and heart. Explore the use of interviews, journals, diaries, memoirs and letters in turning a life into a story. Find sources that can help fill in the gaps or enliven your material. Share and discuss with the class the story you want to tell.

Travel Writing
Discover how to convert your travels into published articles that help pay for your trips. This course is a practical primer that takes you through the steps of selling your ideas to a variety of markets, taking lively photographs, and researching and writing profitable travel articles.

Travelling Europe with Ease
Ever wanted to travel Europe without relying on a tour group or travel agent? This course offers practical advice on creating an exciting itinerary while staying on budget as well as guidance on packing, booking accommodations and tourist safety. Build the confidence you need to plan a unique European travel experience.

Grammar and Style for Creative Writers
Acquire tools of the trade to polish your writing style and find out when it’s okay to break the rules. This workshop is for creative writers who want to tell stories well and become familiar with correct grammar and punctuation.
