Gain an understanding of the cultural diversity of our changing Canadian society and an awareness of how to apply that knowledge to professional practice in human services. Viewed through the lens of international, national, provincial and territorial human rights legislation, as well as standards of non-discrimination and inclusion, this certificate explores current issues presented by cultural diversity in Canada.
Contemporary topics such as cultural diversity changes in Canadian demography, benefits associated with cultural competency in professional practice, skills for culturally responsive practice and access to human services amongst culturally diverse populations will be addressed.

Cultural Diversity in Canada is the prerequisite for the other courses. The remaining three courses can be taken in any order.
Earning Your Extension Certificate
Complete the four required courses (60 hours) with a minimum passing grade in each course.
Career Outlook
The Cultural Diversity in Professional Practice Extension Certificate helps prepare students to work effectively within culturally diverse workplaces and communities, as well as with culturally diverse families from a human services perspective.
Who Should Take this Program?
The certificate is aimed towards those individuals interested in learning more about cultural diversity in Canadian society and human service professionals working within the fields of child and youth care, education, early learning and child care, social work, justice, child welfare, counselling, nursing, human resources and health care.

Cultural Diversity in Canada
This course provides a contextual framework for the other three courses that follow by exploring cultural diversity in Canada, from a professional practices perspective. Students will consider topics such as relevant rights-related legislation, multiculturalism, and immigration and demographic trends.
Note: This course is the prerequisite to all other courses in the certificate.

This course will assist in preparing students to work effectively within cultural diverse workplaces, from a professional practices perspective. Students will consider topics such as relevant rights-related legislation, intercultural workplace communications, and cultural competency.

This course will assist in preparing students to work effectively within culturally diverse families, from a professional practices perspective.
