ACE (Advance Consulting for Education) is Canada's premier provider of English language teacher training. ACE TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programs explore English language teaching and learning through task-based, participatory and interactive experiences. Content is based on the most recent research in language acquisition and education. Further details on individual courses can be found on the ACE website.
Non-native speakers must provide documentation that they satisfy the English Proficiency Requirement for Mount Royal credit programs. It is strongly recommended that students have an undergraduate degree prior to taking these programs.
Professional Designation Programs

Introductory ESL Teacher Training
The ACE TESOL Certificate is an introductory ESL teacher training course with 100 hours of classroom instruction and a 20- or 10-hour practicum. Students must have daytime availability between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, in order to complete the practicum. The ACE TESOL Certificate with 20-hour practicum (in combination with an undergraduate degree) is recognized by TESL Canada for Professional Standard One.

Advanced ESL Teacher Training
The ACE TESOL Diploma will add to your confidence as an educator, increase your knowledge base and expertise and provide you with a further professional credential. The course is offered in both online and face to face formats. In both cases, the course consists of 150 hours of instruction plus a 30-hour practicum. The practicum is arranged by the student in consultation with Mount Royal University.
Note: Participants who have completed a TESL Canada-recognized Standard One certificate or an equivalent program recognized by PLAR as well as the ACE TESOL Diploma with a 30-hour practicum are eligible to apply for TESL Canada Professional Certification Standard Two.
Prerequisite: TESL Canada Professional Standard One Interim (or equivalent). As this course integrates theory and practice, we strongly recommend that all applicants have some adult ESL/EFL classroom experience.
Online format: The 150 hours of online instruction are divided into three terms. There is no classroom component to this course and students work at their own pace within a given term. Students may begin in Fall, Winter or Spring/Summer term; however, the three terms must be taken consecutively. The practicum may be completed in any of the three terms and at any time within the chosen term; however, practicum hours must be completed by the end date of the participant's final term.
Note: Terms Two and Three will be offered in Winter 2014 term and Spring/Summer 2014 term, respectively.

NEW! Teaching Standardized Test Preparation
The ACE Certificate in Teaching Standardized Test Preparation is a 26-hour online course which equips teachers with the knowledge, skills and techniques they need to help their students be successful on a variety of standardized English language proficiency tests. The course covers general test preparation teaching techniques, resource evaluation skills and lesson planning. It then takes participants through teaching techniques specific to TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, the Cambridge exams and several smaller exams.

Language Teaching and Technology
The ACE Certificate in Language Teaching and Technology is a three-part online course designed for language teachers who are interested in becoming more skilled and confident in the use of technologies for language teaching purposes. This course is not only for teachers of English, but teachers of any language.
Part 1: Develop an online presence while learning about a variety of tools.
