- Freedom of Information or Part 1 of the Act, provides people with a right of access to records in the custody or control of a public body, including access to their own records, subject to specific exceptions. Mount Royal University is a public body under the act.
- Protection of Privacy or Part 2 of the Act, establishes limitations to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by Mount Royal University, to protect the privacy of individuals.
- Roles and Powers of Information and Privacy Commissioner and Reviews and Complaints or Part 3 of the Act, outlines the role and powers of the Information and Privacy Commissioner as well as how to pursue reviews and complaints regarding access to information or protection of privacy.
