LEED^® Certification Exam Prep Courses

These courses are not part of the LEED^® in Practice Certificate of Completion (see below).

Building Green with LEED^® courses provide a comprehensive overview of green building techniques, materials and technologies. These are the only post-secondary courses in Canada designed and recognized by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Many professional associations also recognize these courses for continuing education credits.

LEED^® Green Building Strategies and Green Associate Exam Preparation
Explore core concepts and strategies to reduce the impact of the built environment in Canada while preparing for your Green Associate Exam.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

• understand the imperative for a green transformation of our built environment
• explain the key components of the LEED rating system
• apply core concepts and strategies to achieve success using the LEED rating system
• determine where different LEED rating systems can be applied

Note: Course fee includes non-refundable $50 deposit. Materials are optional and are available through the Mount Royal University BookStore for an additional fee.

Building Green with LEED^®: New Construction Rating System    
This intensive course provides an in-depth, technical exploration of the LEED^® Canada for New Construction Version 2009 Green Building Rating System. It is ideal for professionals looking for comprehensive, hands-on learning that provides one of the best foundations available for the LEED^® Professional Accreditation Exams.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

• demonstrate technical proficiency with the specific requirements of the LEED^® Canada NC Rating System 2009
• perform cost-benefit analyses of green building strategies to calculate simple paybacks
• utilize the LEED Letter Templates and other tools to develop certification documentation
• consider writing the LEED Accredited Professional Exam

Developed by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC), this program helps industry professionals, currently working on LEED projects, save time and money on LEED certifications by understanding documentation, submission and review requirements.

Examine various roles in a project and use hands-on examples to explore strategies to achieve LEED certification.

LEED Project Management
This overview of the process, project milestone, typical roles and responsibilities, and best practices gives you tools and tips for successful submission and certification of your LEED project.

Site Management 
Tackle site problems with proven design strategies to address common water and wildlife habitat issues.

Architectural Design and Documentation 
Explore typical responsibilities of architects in the LEED certification process including strategies for passive design, improving energy performance, and sourcing truly sustainable products.

LEED^® for Construction 
Examine the challenges of a LEED project for contractors and learn to address them using expert tips and best practices.

Mechanical Design and Documentation 
Gain an understanding of the LEED requirements that are typically the responsibility of the mechanical engineer.

LEED^® for the Structural Engineer 
Investigate site solutions, water use, energy use, indoor air quality and assessing “greenness” of structural materials.

Measurement and Verification 
Review the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) document with a focus on key elements of a Measurement and Verification Plan.

Durable Buildings 
Use case studies to explore LEED requirements and strategies for designing and documenting a Durable Building, per the CSA S478 (R2007) guideline.

Stack Sampling

Stack Sampling Theory     NEW!
This two-day seminar focuses on the codes and methods used in stack sampling, with particular emphasis on the Alberta Stack Sampling Code and the Alberta CEMS Code. Learn the theory and calculations behind the methods commonly used for stack sampling programs, including demonstrations of the different sampling methods and techniques.
 
Day one features in-depth discussions on the Alberta Stack Sampling Code, including theories behind the different methods and the calculations used to derive final results that industry receives. Day one also features demonstrations with the sampling equipment as well as discussions on stack sampling QA/QC.
 
Day two focuses on the Alberta CEMS Code and includes discussions about code requirements, CEMS test methods, quality assurance plans and audits. Day two also features calculation reviews for Relative Accuracy Test Audits and Cylinder Gas Audits.

Stack Sampling
This industry-recognized five-day seminar gives you hand-on practice in stack sampling. Learning the correct procedures for extracting a representative sample from a stack or dust under normal operating conditions. Gain knowledge of standard testing procedures and documents each step of the test by maintaining complete and accurate records as required by enforcement agencies. Subject code: XENV 30001
