The Shiatsu Therapy program is an accredited discipline through the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC).
Shiatsu therapy is a non-invasive manual therapy that stimulates the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. The therapy involves the systematic application of pressure to different points on the soft tissues of the body.
Shiatsu therapy is a highly respected form of physical therapy in Japan that is now becoming well known internationally. It utilizes acupressure points in addition to a wide range of hands-on techniques for an effective and inclusive form of somatic therapy.
Earning Your Extension Certificate
This certificate is scheduled part-time through online courses and weekend classes.
Complete the eleven courses (483 hours).
Shiatsu Therapy Levels 1-6 must be taken in sequence.
Upon completion you will be accredited to practise as a Certified Shiatsu Practitioner.
Tuition
483-hour Shiatsu Therapy Extension Certificate: $4,800; textbooks and materials are additional (approx. $1,000). Fees are paid per course upon registration. All fees are subject to change.

Understand the value of shiatsu as an effective therapeutic method. Gain a solid foundation in the principles of shiatsu, understand basic acupressure techniques, identify meridians and perform a shiatsu whole-body sequence.

Shiatsu Therapy, Level 1
Be introduced to the healing practice of shiatsu, a highly respected form of physical therapy in Japan. Learn the history, principles and foundation of shiatsu therapy including the yin-yang and ki theories.

Shiatsu Therapy, Level 2
Explore various aspects of the self care practices that are important for shiatsu therapists and their clients in the maintenance of good physical and mental health.

Shiatsu Therapy, Level 3
Explore the theory of kyo-jitsu and hara (abdominal) treatment and diagnosis and incorporate into hands-on treatment. Learn and practise meditation skills and recuperative exercises.

Shiatsu Therapy, Level 4
Examine the code of ethics and client/therapist relationships. Develop effective client interviewing skills for the purpose of assessment, client intake and development of a treatment plan.

Shiatsu Therapy, Level 5
Gain knowledge of the revised list of indications and contra-indications based on level 4 shiatsu knowledge. Prepare for the practicum.

Business of Wellness Therapies
Business of Wellness Therapies introduces students to the wellness industry along with factors driving change. The global wellness market, consumer behaviours and evolving wellness business models are presented. Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
Gain a basic understanding of the structure and functions of the systems of the human body in health and also during selected pathological conditions.
The study of the main medical (Latin) terminology enables you to comprehend the basic medical literature and effectively communicate with other health professionals. Conventional (western) treatment options for the selected pathological conditions are also discussed.
