Massage Therapy Admission Process

Massage Therapy Certificate (1100 hours) and Massage Therapy Diploma (2200 hours)

Entrance Requirements

  • Official high school or post-secondary transcript
    All applicants are required to submit an official high school or post-secondary transcript. Applicants 21 years of age or older who do not have a high school diploma are considered on an individual basis and must submit an official copy of their most recent transcript.

    An official transcript must come directly to MRU from the issuing institution or remain in the original sealed envelope if submitted by the applicant.

    If you attended high school in Alberta, British Columbia or Saskatchewan, official high school transcripts must be requested directly from the provincial ministry. If you attended high school in another province, write or fax the last high school you attended to request submission of your official high school transcript directly to Mount Royal University.

    International applicants must present their original transcripts along with a certified translated copy from an approved translation service where necessary.
     
  • Statement of Career Investigation (included in application package)
  • Non-refundable $100 application fee
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency (if English is not your first language)

Early Admission

Enrolment is limited. It is to your advantage to apply during the early admission period. Applicants who apply for early admission will be considered within 4-6 weeks of their date of application. Applications may be accepted after the early admission period, pending space availability. Visit this website for updates.

Confirmation of Acceptance and Tuition Deposit
All students admitted to a program are required to confirm their offer of admission by paying a $150 non-refundable tuition deposit within ten (10) business days. The tuition deposit is credited to your student account and is applied towards your tuition. Failure to pay the tuition deposit within 10 business days will result in your offer of admission being cancelled.

Students who cancel their admission or course registration will forfeit the $150 non-refundable tuition deposit.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is a method of recognizing and accrediting the demonstrated knowledge that has resulted from prior work, academic and life experiences. For more information, see PLAR.

Direct Entry into Year 2 of the 2200-hour Massage Therapy Diploma

The Massage Therapy program can be completed in a maximum of 6 years. If you have interrupted your studies for more than 12 months and wish to return to the same program, you are required to re-apply for admission. Applications should be submitted during the Early Admissions Period. Application fee will apply. When re-applying, you will be subject to any program changes that have occurred in your absence.

Entrance Requirements

  • Proof of Completion of Massage Therapy program of 1000 hours or more
    Official transcripts or parchment
  • Letter of Intent (included in application package)
    Acknowledging your responsibility to have met the graduate outcomes of the MRU 1100-hour Massage Therapy Certificate
  • Statement of Career Investigation (included in application package)
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency (if English is not your first language)

  • Non-refundable $100 application fee

Applicants with fewer than 1000 hours of massage therapy training cannot apply for direct entry into Year 2. Previously completed courses (completed within the last six years) may be transferable through Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) towards your 1100-hour Massage Therapy Certificate or 2200-hour Massage Therapy Diploma.
