Part-time English Language Programs

The Languages Institute offers part-time English as a Second Language, IELTS and TOEFL® test preparation courses. These part-time classes are for students who want to study in the afternoon, evenings and weekends.

English as a Second Language

Reading / Writing
Learn strategies for improving your general reading comprehension and increasing your reading vocabulary. Reading topics are based on general interest and current events. Improve your fluency and accuracy in writing and develop the ability to use correct paragraph form. Writing instruction connects to the reading and discussion topics.

Note: This class is for intermediate level students.  It is not suitable for literacy or low level students (LINC 1 - 4) or advanced students. This is not a business/technical writing course (see Business English courses for alternatives).

 Tune  Up!
Tune up your English pronunciation.  Includes vowel and consonant sounds, word and sentence stress, rhythm and intonation patterns. 

Note: This class is for intermediate level students.  It  is not suitable for students in lower levels (LINC 1-4)

Listen Up!
This class encourages you to develop your listening skills and vocabulary. Topics come from news, short videos, television, films and documentaries.

Note: This class is not suitable for students in lower levels (LINC 1 - 4).

Speak Up!
This class allows you to practice your conversation skills. Topics come from current events, reading, everyday life and interviews. Class activities focus on pair and group work.

Note: This class is not suitable for students at lower levels (LINC 1 - 4) or for advanced students or those functioning well in a native-speaking environment.

Intensive TOEFL® Preparation
This course will prepare you for the new TOEFL iBT® test format, which includes speaking, listening, reading and writing. The course includes computer lab time to practice the skills. Price does not include the cost of the TOEFL® test.

For the above courses, register at least one week before the course start date. The Languages Institute reserves the right to cancel or combine classes if minimum registration is not reached one week prior to the start date.
