
Guitarist Holly Blazina has been captivated by modern flamenco's passionate melodies, driving rhythms and jazz influenced harmonies from first listening. She has been studying the flamenco art form since 1994 with the help of many artists from across Spain and North America, including a mentorship with Calgary flamenco guitarist and recording artist Peter Knight. Holly has studied intensively with flamenco performer and recording artist Michele Iaccarino at the Taller Flamenco school in Seville, Spain. In addition, she has a Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Calgary.
Holly was a three time guest performer for Andaluz, a flamenco and middle eastern dance show, and a three time guest performer for the Calgary Classical Guitar Society. She has performed as an invited guest with the Calgary Renaissance Singers and Players, she co-produced the Poesia Gitana flamenco show with the Fiona Malena Flamenco Society in 2006, and co-produced the Casa Flamenca shows with Fiona Malena in 2007 and 2008.
Holly performs regularly as a soloist, and well as in numerous flamenco ensembles with singers, dancers and percussionists. When not performing, she enjoys teaching private guitar lessons and workshops, yoga classes for musicians and composing original works in the flamenco style.
