Let’s celebrate together
Mount Royal University's centennial is not just a day-long party, it's a 16-month experience.
Beginning in Aug. 2010 and running through to Dec. 16 2011, Mount Royal has organized a virtual parade of tastes, sounds, and visuals to celebrate our impressive history and not to mention all the exciting things in store for our future.
A celebration of this magnitude needs more than good ideas though. We need good help.
Many of these unique events offer a rare opportunity to get involved in something historic.
We look forward to working with as many of you as possible in making this the true party of the century.
This page will be updated regularly with volunteer opportunities. If you know of a specific event or project that sparks your interest but is not listed here, please let us know. We always have room for one more.
Contact Lara Unsworth to volunteer for any of these opportunities:
If a picture's worth a thousand words, imagine what type of story a mural made up of hundreds of pictures can tell.
The centennial mural mosaic might turn out to be a once in a life-time opportunity. If you are artistic or crafty at all, you may want to consider getting involved with the mural mosaic.
Hold on now. Even if you don't have an artistic bone in your body, you might be able to help inspire those who are.
We are searching for ideas for the more than 250 images required to make up the mural. Reflect on your fondest memories of Mount Royal and send us ideas about the people, places and things you feel have played a significant role in Mount Royal’s story.
If you know something about a day or moment in our history that could possibly be of interest, we want to hear about it.
Humorous, poignant, ridiculous, profound — we want to hear them all.
Help us document and archive our hundred-year history so we have the full story to tell future generations..
How do you fit 100 years into one float?
Very carefully, with a lot of consideration.
We want to create the best Stampede float ever in tribute of our centennial.
To get our float rolling, or floating as the case may be, we need as much help as possible in all sorts of different capacities, from handy-men to creative consultants, to the crafty types.
The float will hit the road for the 2011 Stampede parade, so lend a hand. The more, the merrier.
Why you should be involved in the party of a century
Every member of our 100-year-old community has played a role in making Mount Royal University what it is today.
Don't miss this rare opportunity for us all to celebrate the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into that history and pay tribute to those who've put so much time and effort into Mount Royal over the past 100 years.
By being involved in our centennial you will:
- celebrate and build pride in Mount Royal’s history and accomplishments
- bring our rich history to life
- highlight Mount Royal’s connection with the past and how it serves as the essential foundation for the future
- encourage individuals in the community to feel a part of something larger than themselves, build a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy
- and of course — have fun!
