Women's Fastball Club

Interested in joining the Mount Royal Women's Fastball Club for the Fall 2012 season? Join us for an information meeting on Wednesday, April 11at 5:00 pm in Y210. Or email us at mru.fastball@gmail.com.

The season runs from August to October and involves play in the Alberta Intercollegiate Women's Fastball Association. More information can be found at www.aiwfa.ca.

Men’s Rugby Club

We primarily compete at the university level against other schools from western Canada in the CanWest League and we invite players of all skill levels to join our team. Our fall semester consists of a regular season against other Alberta universities with the end goal of qualifying for national competitions. Players may join in the fall or winter semester. Each member of our coaching staff has 10+ years experience playing/coaching across Canada. For more information, please email mrurugby@gmail.com.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Club 
Join any time; the fee will be pro-rated. By incorporating aspects of training routines used by elite martial artists, we have designed effective body-weight and skill development drills that work the entire body. We welcome all fitness and skill levels. Join the MMA Club and take your fitness and lifestyle goals to a new level. Whether you are looking to improve your health and wellness or want to become a

Squash Club  
Annual Squash Club Membership
Join any time; however, the fee will not be pro-rated. Beginner to advanced squash players get together to improve their skills, meet new players and have fun. These Squash Club activities are free for club members: monthly box leagues and drop-in play (see below for details). These Squash Club activities are an additional cost for Squash Club members: interclub play, lessons and tournaments (see below for details). IMPORTANT: To access Squash Club activities, Squash Club members must maintain a current four month or annual Rec Centre membership for the entire duration of the Squash Club activity.

Squash Social Night
The third Friday of the month is Squash Social Night. Meet other squash players, have some friendly competition and then head out for snacks and adult beverages. The cost of snacks and beverages is not included in the fee.

Monthly Box League: Beginner to Advanced
For current Squash Club members only (included in your annual squash club membership). Play at your own level, improve your game and meet new squash players. Players organize four to five matches per month according to their own schedules, (i.e. daytimes, evenings or weekends). Email the club at squashboxleague@yahoo.ca or phone the Squash Club Hotline 403.440.8787 to be placed at a level that is appropriate for you.

Drop-in Play: Beginner to Intermediate
For current Squash Club members only (included in your annual squash club membership). Meet other players and improve your skills in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. Drop-in play is not coached, but a Squash Club representative will be on hand to match up players and give pointers.

Drop-in Play: Intermediate to Advanced
For current Squash Club members only (included in your annual squash club membership). Drop in, play squash and socialize with squash players at a similar level to you. Drop-in play is not coached, but a Squash Club representative will be on hand to match up players and give pointers.

Prerequisite(s):
17+ years, current four month or annual Recreation membership. 

Interclub Play 
For current Squash Club members only (an additional fee applies). This is competitive play against teams from other squash clubs in Calgary. Novice to advanced levels are available and teams consist of four to six members. Matches are played every other Tuesday, September through April with seven home and seven away matches. Half of
the evening is spent playing the matches and the other half is spent socializing with the other team. Each “home team” treats the “away team” to drinks/food (off campus) and the cost of this is $25 – $30 per player per home match. MRU Students: ask the Squash Club about their “sponsor a student” option to make Interclub affordable for
you. Home matches are held at MRU and away matches are held at various squash clubs throughout Calgary. For more information, please email mrusquashclub@hotmail.com.

Squash Fun Team Tournament – 3rd Annual
We had so much fun last March that we decided not to wait until spring to have another tournament. Start off the squash season with some friendly competition and meet other squash club members. Be part of a four-player team and compete against other teams. Tournament maximum is 40 players. Entrants will receive three 20
minute match-ups, a souvenir t-shirt and awards dinner. The first 10 MRU students to register get FREE registration. All MRU students who play in this tournament will receive a FREE 2011-2012 Squash Club membership.

Recreation operates the Mount Royal Triathlon Club (MRTC) as a
program.
 
Women’s Fastball Club

We compete in the Alberta Inter-collegiate Women’s Fastball Association (AIWFA) against other university and college teams in Alberta and Saskatchewan in league play, and against university and college teams from the Northern US in exhibition play. AIWFA teams also vie to compete in the Canadian Collegiate Women’s Fastball
Championships in October.
The AIWFA playing season is late August to mid-October. Club tryouts and practices are in August. Please contact the club if you are interested in playing competitive women’s fastball at the university level: mtroyal.fastball@shaw.ca.

Women’s Ringette Club
We will compete in the Ringette Calgary Open A league against other university and Open A teams in league, city and provincial play. We’ll also attend tournaments within western Canada. In addition, we plan to compete at the University Challenge Cup which is the Canadian University Ringette Championships that takes place in January 2012. The playing season is September to late March. Club tryouts and practices are held in September.
