Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment used to promote the body's own natural healing process by reducing pain and inflammation, leading to improved function of affected area(s) of the body. The basic function of acupuncture is to maintain physiological balance in the body.

This physical stimulation may be in one of many different tissues such as a nerve, muscle, or vascular structure. Acupuncture helps to stimulate the body's circulation and production of its own pain relieving chemicals called endorphins. Acupuncture also helps to improve energy and restore biochemical balance in the body which can be affected by dysfunction or disease. Shock Wave Therapy gently stimulates a healing response within chronically injured tissue, putting an end to pain. It does this through a rapid series of high-energy pressure waves delivered to the injured area.

This mechanical energy creates microtrauma within the injured tissue stimulating a healing response by:

  • Increasing local growth factors
  • Increasing local circulation via neovascularization
  • Increasing and improving collagen synthesis
  • Inducing cell proliferation and differentiation

ESWT is indicated for chronic injuries of tendons or fascia such as:

  • Plantarfasciopathy
  • Achilles tendonopathy
  • Patellar tendonopathy (jumper's knee)
  • Shoulder tendonopathy
  • Epicondylitis (tennis or golfer's elbow)

ESWT is safe, non-invasive and without side effects. It falls under the scope of practice of many of our practitioners.
