Career Services

Special Event Marketing Assistants

Each year, short-term contract positions are available for students to assist Career Services with event promotions and recruitment for our annual special events (Career and Recruitment Fair — March, and Volunteer Recruitment Fair — October). If you have skills in marketing and special event planning, contact Career Services. Look for job postings on the Mount Royal University Student and Graduation Job Bank a few months before each event.

Event Assistants

Each year Career Services seeks 10 to 15 students who are hardworking and can demonstrate a high energy level to assist exhibitors on event day at the Career and Recruitment Fair in March and/or the Volunteer Recruitment Fair in October.

Assistance includes: greeting exhibitors and providing quality customer service with a professional attitude, using trolleys to load, unload and move display materials to and from the outside drop zone and Main Street, general event set-up and clean-up duties.

Must be a current Mount Royal student and available to assist 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., and/or 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Students will receive training, along with a gift certificate from the Mount Royal BookStore. Contact Career Services for further information or apply via the Mount Royal University Student and Graduate Job Bank approximately two months before each event.

Academic Advising Services

New Student Orientation

Do you remember your first day at Mount Royal? Was it hectic having to deal with the busy line ups and searching for your classrooms? Consider helping other new students during their first day? First Year Insight is our new student orientation program for new students.

We are looking for outgoing current students with great communication skills to volunteer as leaders for both our September and January events. This is a great opportunity to make a difference, boost your confidence and develop leadership skills. Training will be provided, however previous knowledge of Mount Royal is an asset.

Event Volunteers

Marketing and Communications offers diverse volunteer opportunities in areas throughout Mount Royal. Participate in exciting events like Pearls of Wisdom or Open House. Volunteer to be a part of the most celebrated day on campus – Convocation. Volunteers are always needed to fill a variety of roles in one off events or ceremonies. Join in and gain hands-on event experience and meet your peers in a fun and social setting.

Recreation Program Assistants

Mount Royal Recreation hires over 100 students and they are integral to components of our business and these areas include: marketing and communications, special events, fitness, aquatics, first aid, climbing wall and customer service. Mount Royal's Annual Fun Run

Residence Services

Resident Advisor

If you are an upper-year student currently living in residence, or are planning to live in residence you may want to consider applying to be a Resident Advisor (RA). RA's live within an assigned residence community and are responsible for approximately 30 residents. They plan events, supervise the community, and counsel and refer students academically and personally. They are trained in many areas, including first aid, conflict resolution, event planning, crisis management, and suicide intervention.

Residence Activities Council

If you are moving into residence you may want to get involved with the Residence Activities Council (RAC). This volunteer opportunity will introduce you to a team of students that spend the year planning residence wide events, such as formals, trips to Stampeders games, ball hockey tournaments and fund-raising initiatives. You will be provided with on-going leadership training that includes workshops on event planning, team dynamics, communication skills, etc. Many RAC members make the transition into the RA role in their second year in residence.

START Program

Computer Tutors
The START Program employs reliable students who are quick learners and have good interpersonal, communication, and computer application skills.  START Computer Tutors help MRU students overcome computer related issues that get in the way of completing course work.  Successful candidates are trained in customer service, Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe CS5, Blackboard, Google Applications, Mackintosh, i-Movie, Garage Band, email, wireless, printing, scanning, laptops, etc.  There are opportunities for growth and promotion at different locations on campus.  For those who excel, leadership opportunities exist in mentoring, training development, group teaching and as project leads.

Student Calling Program (SCP) - Alumni Relations

Are you interested in the ease of working on campus? Is having a conversation on the telephone something you are comfortable with? Are you interested in helping to raise money to help your fellow students through scholarships? If you answered YES then this job is for you! The SCP runs from September 2012 until April 2013. Starting wage for the SCP is $12.50/hour depending on the position. Positions available include supervisors, callers, data entry and communications. Students' Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU)

 Students' Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) The Students’ Association is a student-run organization that values participation in decision making and building community. Through volunteerism on its boards and committees as well as student centres, the Association offers first-hand experience in citizenship and provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills and social responsibility.
