This course explores the history, development, distinctiveness, and cultural significance of film in Canada Examining Canadian films, students will explore works in different genres, engage issues of film production, and focus upon questions of film interpretation. These areas of study will foster an inderstanding of the creation of “Canada” and the “Canadian” through film.
Prerequisite: One of Film Studies 1143, 2214, 2246, 3345, Canadian Studies 1131, 3730, Communications 2500, 3521, English 2270, 2271, 3372, History 2291 or 3356.
Recommended preparation: at least one of Film Studies 2214, 2246, and 3345.
