Currently there are over 175,000 nonprofit organizations providing services in the areas such as health care, arts, culture, recreation, human services, sports education, environment and international development. Mount Royal University offers the only minor in nonprofit management in an undergraduate business degree.

Courses cover a broad range of issues including public policy, governance, service delivery, economics, volunteerism, social change and community development.
