Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship — New Venture

Admission to the Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship - New Venture has been discontinued as of Fall 2010. If you are interested in Entrepreneurship, please see the Bachelor of Business Administration.

Current students who began their studies in the Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship - New Venture have the opportunity to complete their program.
They should consult a Business Advisor for further information and guidance.

You won’t just talk about running a small business — you’ll do it in Mount Royal’s Bachelor
of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship — New Venture. Unique in North America, this four-year program supports you as you start your own venture while still in school. You will obtain the theory to be successful as well as the expert advice, mentors and business
savvy to thrive in your own venture. All you need to bring is your independent spirit.

Be your own boss

You will have an opportunity to work for yourself instead of someone else by acquiring
the right knowledge to be a profitable business owner in the New Venture applied degree program. Being your own boss can be part of your Directed Field Studies. The business venture also allows you to take on a leadership role in your family’s business.

Experience wanted

You can gain entrepreneurial expertise in all aspects of small, medium and family
business including:

  • Identifying and researching business opportunities
  • Writing and presenting a business plan to potential sponsors
  • Business operations and management
  • Marketing and persuasive communications
  • Developing and managing an asset base

Faculty experts

Faculty members understand the importance of small, medium and family enterprise and many have launched and run successful businesses, as well as coached entrepreneurs. They also have extensive experience in obtaining venture capital and can help you write business plans to get financing from banks or other investors.

Funding available

The program offers opportunities for startup funding through a partnership with the
Canada Youth Business Foundation. Students are eligible for loans up to $15,000
based on business plans and academic records — not on their credit rating.

Career choices

In 2004, self-employment counted for one in every five new jobs created in Canada. Entrepreneurs create more than 80% of all new jobs. Entrepreneurship graduates’
annual incomes are 27% higher than those of graduates from other programs.

Your job title could be:

  • Business owner or operator — start and run your own small- to medium-sized business.
  • Entrepreneurial manager in a family business or a private or public organization — be a leader who helps make businesses or organizations more productive through stronger relationships and creativity.
  • Business venture analyst or consultant — spot good business opportunities. Negotiate the complex financing with entrepreneurs and work closely with others in your field.

Other streams

In addition to the New Venture stream, Mount Royal also offers a Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship in International Business or Sport and Recreation.
This program earned national recognition as the most innovative Applied Business and Entrepreneurship undergraduate degree from the Canadian Council for Small Business
and Entrepreneurs.
