Journalism: Take part in your world

Journalism training through the Centre for Communication Studies prepares you to work directly in print, television and online media as editors, reporters, photojournalists, producers and researchers, while also offering a range of communication and computer skills of value for any career choice.

Using state-of-the-art facilities, our faculty of former industry professionals is focused on nurturing your abilities in a training environment that simulates what you will encounter in the work force.

Your education extends beyond the classroom

Providing practical, specific experience, using tools and technology that are in line with industry standards is the top priority of our department. Our curriculum is structured to give you the tools and skills needed to gain employment upon graduation.

The bachelor program includes two, four-month, paid work terms (Directed Field Studies), padding your resume with eight months of real work experience, even before you graduate.

The Calgary Journal Community Newspaper
Journalism students write stories, edit content, take photos and create the layout for this award-winning, community newspaper. Published twice a month, the Journal can be found on news stands across the city and is also published online.

CJ Connect Online
Published once each semester, this website displays student work from our journalism and technology course. Each student contributes to the site with a story that highlights technological advances and/or explores the issues surrounding technology and communication.

Calgary Journal Television
Producing their own television newscasts, students learn all elements of broadcast journalism using the latest digital television equipment, studios and edit suites. Portions of these shows are available for viewing online.
