The ACE Certificate in Teaching English for Specific Purposes is a 45-hour online course designed for practicing ESL teachers interested in broadening their expertise into the areas of teaching standardized test preparation, EAP (English for Academic Purposes), English for business and professional use, and occupation specific language training.
Requirements
The prerequisite for the ACE Certificate in Teaching ESP is TESL Canada professional certification at Standard One Interim (or equivalent). This means that applicants must already have completed a TESL Canada approved certificate-level program such as the ACE TESOL Certificate. Please note that as this course integrates theory and practice, we strongly recommend that all applicants have some adult ESL/EFL classroom experience. Please see www.tesl.ca for more information on professional certification.
Applicants whose first language is not English must satisfy the English Language Proficiency requirements for Mount Royal credit programs by providing a recent score on an accepted English proficiency test.
Assessment
There are 30 modules in the course. Each of the modules is comprised of lecture notes and a task journal. Students submit task journals to their instructor on an ongoing basis for feedback and assessment.
