More than just textbooks

You won’t just be reading textbooks in this program. You will get hands-on experience during lab work. And you won’t be on your own. Mount Royal has a large number of instructional assistants who will support you.

Out in the world

Depending on your courses, you will also get the opportunity to do work in the field and participate in field trips. There are also several opportunities to study internationally. Rock on

Mount Royal’s unique rock garden is used as an outdoor lab. The 140,000 tonnes of rocks include samples of sandstone, limestone, petrified trees and fossils. The oldest specimen is 490 million years old and the most recent is 75 million years old.

Career choices

A shortage of scientists means job opportunities are plentiful. A B.Sc. can lead you to a wide variety of career choices depending on your chosen major. Here are just a few examples:

  • Geologist ― an earth scientist who studies the history and structure of our planet’s rocks, minerals, fossils, etc. Locate new oil fields or mineral deposits while traveling the globe.
  • Chemist ― in the academic world you can teach or do research. In industry you can develop new formulas for everything from shampoo to medications.
  • Biologist ― study living things, conduct research, work in industry or teach. Many biologists specialize in such fields as marine biology, biochemistry and pathology.
