Cowtown Opera Summer Academy

Aug. 18 – 24, 2013
An international vision for aspiring singers

For ages 17-23 (or by faculty consent).

The Cowtown Opera Summer Academy (COSA) offers intensive short-term studies for singing students who wish to learn more about opera, art song, stagecraft and vocal health.

COSA wants to assist young singers by providing an internationally-experienced faculty to collaborate on all aspects of vocal and artistic development. Led by professionals with international experience, students will benefit from instruction in small groups as well as in individual lessons. Focusing on developing young singers of the future, the workshop will include:

  • “Yoga for the Voice”
  • individual voice lessons
  • stagecraft classes
  • masterclasses in French song, German lieder and opera arias
  • classes on vocal health, career development, and "How to Become Your Biggest Fan"
  • performance opportunities — art song recital and opera scene workshops

By the end of the week the aim is for each singer to have increased confidence in their artistry and performance skills as well as additional knowledge about vocal health, anatomy and pedagogy. A performance opportunity in the closing concert will be offered to every student.
