Cougars soon to hear how their season will play out

By Oct. 8, Mount Royal's sudent-athletes will find out about their season as decided by U Sports, the governing body of all varsity athletics in Canada. A Cougars Campaign is seeking donations to help ensure MRU can continue its track record of success.

Season 2 of JANN painted Bella blue

MRU became a character in the hit CTV comedy JANN when producers were so taken with the colour of the upholstery of the seats in the Bella Concert Hall they began filming on campus, sprinkling views of MRU throughout the show's eight episodes.

Industry's highest recognition received

Associate professor of human resources Melanie Peacock, PhD, received the annual O.C. Tanner Lifetime Achievement Award in September in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the industry as a whole, plus visionary strategies and leadership.

Virtual Town Hall video and slides available

For those who were not able to attend the Virtual Town Hall on Sept. 30, the video and slides have been posted for the community, with the recording available for one week. There was an overview of a number of topics, including the budget. A Q&A will be posted on MyMRU next week.


Winter 2021 semester decision
Mount Royal will continue delivering most classes online during the Winter 2021 semester. Over the next month, faculty members will decide on courses with in-person learning exceptions. While teaching remains primarily online, the University is exploring gradually expanding access to campus safely based on the health guidelines. Learn more here.


Call out for committee members
Provide your feedback and input into dating, domestic and sexual violence prevention education and awareness efforts at MRU by joining the Dating, Domestic and Sexual Violence Education and Awareness Action Committee. This group will provide feedback and support to awareness programming. Review the group charter and send your expression of interest to Cari Ionson at cionson@mtroyal.ca by Oct. 22.


QPR Online Suicide Prevention Training
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a certified suicide prevention program. It supports people in learning to recognize signs of distress and builds awareness of suicide, including how to respond in a helpful way. If you are interested in taking the QPR online training you can request access to a training account here.

New Employee Recognition and Awards program
After a thorough review of best practices and campus consultation, Human Resources is introducing a new Employee Recognition and Awards program. The new program promotes recognition more broadly and frequently, helps create a culture of continuous recognition among colleagues, and honours employees.


Join Wellness Together Canada for immediate online mental health support Canadians have free access to Wellness Together Canada, which is aimed at supporting people’s well-being during the pandemic. Get customized ongoing support based on how you use the tool.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is here
Take part in a Virtual Treasure Hunt, a new Cybersecurity Challenge and two talks: Cybersecurity: Are our graduates ready for the new economy? and The Cybersecurity Monster Manual: Stopping things that go "hack" in the night. Treasure Hunt participants earn contest entry codes. Winners are entered into a draw for a $100 Amazon gift certificate.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
