OVERVIEW
The official Coat of Arms granted to Mount Royal University on April 15, 2011 by the Governor
General of Canada and registered in the Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada,
Volume VI, Page 44, is an emblematic description of the founding of the University. The Mount
Royal University Badge and Flag were created based on the granting and design principles of the
Coat of Arms. Collectively these items are referred to as "Armorial Bearings." The University
Armorial Bearings covered in this Policy include:
(1) The Mount Royal University Coat of Arms

(2) The Mount Royal University Badge
(3) The Mount Royal University Flag
Use of any of the Armorial Bearings in any manner, by any person or organization is prohibited
without prior consent of the Mount Royal University Board of Governors.
The Armorial Bearings are intended to represent Mount Royal University in an official manner
and cannot be used in any way that is contrary to this Policy.

B.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Policy is:
1.
to clarify and provide for the authorized use and protection of the University's Armorial
Bearings;
2.
to prohibit the unauthorized use or reproduction of the Armorial Bearings; and
3.
to ensure the design and integrity of the Armorial Bearings are maintained.
C.
SCOPE
This Policy is general and governs the authorized use of the University's Armorial Bearings. The
Policy applies to all members of the Mount Royal community, including but not limited to, students,
staff, faculty, invited guests, and vendors.
D.
POLICY STATEMENT
1.
Use of any of the Armorial Bearings in any manner, by any person or organization is
prohibited without prior consent of the Mount Royal University Board of Governors. Such
consent may be sanctioned by the Board of Governors via the Vice-President, University
Advancement.
2.
The Vice-President, University Advancement is responsible for the management of this
Policy.
3.
Use of any of the Armorial Bearings are reserved for the University's official, formal and
ceremonial applications and require prior authorization. Requests for the use of any of the
Armorial Bearings must be directed to the Office of the Vice-President, University
Advancement.
4.
The Armorial Bearings may be used separately or together but must be used in the exact
format and proportions stipulated and documented in this Policy. The following are not
permitted:
a.
substitution of colours, wording or any design element;
b.
altering, adding to, deleting or cropping;
c.
skewing or modifying the proportions of any of the Armorial Bearings;
d.
re-creating any of the Armorial Bearings -- correct versions must be requested via the
Office of the Vice-President, University Advancement.
5.
The Armorial Bearings may not be used in any context which is in poor taste but must be
displayed in a dignified and respectful manner wherever/whenever they are used.
6.
All final material bearing any of the Armorial Bearings must be pre-approved by the Vice-
President, University Advancement.
7.
Only the Office of the Registrar and the President's Office or the Board of Governors may
use the Coat of Arms as the corporate seal.
