PROCEDURES
1.
STORING AND/OR TRANSPORTING WEAPONS
1.1
All requests to store or transport Weapons, real, replica, artist rendition or props,
on/off campus must be submitted to and approved by Director, Security Services or
their Designate, using the Request to Transport On/Off or Store Weapons and Prop
Weapons on Campus Form.
1.2
In cases where weapons and prop weapons must be transported on University
property, they are to be carried in a non-transparent container or bag that completely
covers them. Any off-campus transportation must be done by vehicle with a secure
locking compartment.
1.3
Requests must be submitted at least one (1) week prior to the weapon arriving on
campus.
1.4
When the Director, Security Services, or designate, decides upon the request, they
will inform the applicant and any units affected by the decision. In addition the area
hosting the event or class pertaining to the use of the weapons or props will be clearly
signed as to the presence of the items.
1.5
Weapons are not permitted on University property unless approval is granted by the
Director, Security Services or designate.

DEFINITIONS

means Mount Royal University

Weapon(s):
A Weapon is defined as a device or instrument
inherently designed to threaten, injure or kill another
living being. This definition also applies to anything
that looks like a Weapon, or is being used or
threatened to be used as a Weapon. An instrument or
device that a reasonable person believes is a Weapon
will be deemed to be an actual Weapon and will be
treated as such under this Policy.

Weapons include, but are not limited to:
• Firearms
• Explosives (including fireworks)
• Pipe bombs
• Air, Pellet, BB, and CO2 guns
• Bows - all types, including crossbows
• Swords, excluding those permitted for the
modern sport of fencing
• Martial arts weapons
• Prohibited blades
• Hunting or fishing knives
• Brass knuckles
• Replica or imitation firearms (including props)
• Pepper, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC), Bear Spray
• Any other restricted or prohibited device as
defined by the Criminal Code of Canada
