PROCEDURES
The purpose of this Procedure is to outline the process for the reappointment of a Dean.
1.
REAPPOINTMENT PROCEDURES FOR A DEAN
1.1
Reappointment Committee Membership and Procedure
a. Upon confirmation of intent to seek reappointment, the Provost and Vice-
President, Academic will strike a Reappointment Committee with the
membership as outlined in Appendix B of the Selection, Review and
Reappointment of a Dean Policy.
b. The Provost and Vice-President, Academic in conjunction with the
Reappointment Committee will review the Dean’s annual performance reviews.
c. The Reappointment Committee will determine its own processes but shall
observe the following guidelines:
i.
The Reappointment Committee shall invite the Vice-Dean(s), Associate
Dean(s), Chair(s), manager(s), faculty and staff members of the
appropriate Faculty, along with others who may be appropriate from the
University or external communities, to make written submission to the
Chair of the Committee regarding their view of the reappointment of the
Dean.
ii.
The Committee will meet with the incumbent to review their performance
in the position and their plans for the new term if reappointed.
d. The Committee will advise the Provost and Vice-President, Academic on a
recommendation to make to the President.

Resources
The Associate Vice-President, Human Resources (or designate) will serve as a
resource to the Reappointment Committee.

2. CONFIDENTIALITY
All discussions regarding the reappointment of a Dean shall be carried out in confidence.
3. REAPPOINTMENT OF A DEAN
3.1
The President will make the reappointment on the advice of the Provost and Vice-
President, Academic.
3.2
The Provost and Vice-President, Academic, in consultation with Human Resources,
will negotiate and conclude a contract with the candidate approved for reappointment
as Dean.
