PROCEDURES
1.
NOMINATION
1.1.
Departments, organizational units most closely associated with the work of the
Nominee, or groups of individuals may be Nominators for recipients of the
Academic Emeritus/Emerita designation. Each nomination shall include the
supporting signatures of at least three tenured faculty members, as well as the
signature of the Nominee indicating their willingness to be nominated and consent
to making the supporting documentation available to the University Honours
Committee.
1.2.
All nominations must be submitted on the “Nomination Form for an Academic
Emeritus/Emerita Candidate.”
1.3.
Nominations shall set out the reasons for recommending the award of the
designation. Because the award recognizes meritorious achievements in at least
one of the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, the nomination should
provide evidence of those accomplishments. Such evidence is not limited to, but
might include:
a. documentation of awards or other formal forms of recognition for excellence in
teaching, and/or administrative service, and/or research, scholarly or artistic
activity;
b. documentation o
f contributions to the Nominee’s department or to the entire
University;
c. evaluations by students and assessments by peers;
d. record of courses and curriculum development supported with innovations in
teaching;
e.
a copy of the Nominee’s curriculum vitae or résumé, including a list of scholarly
publications, reviewed and juried works, refereed journals invited lectureships
or other public presentations, and evidence of success in receiving grants from
external agencies;

f.
record of participation on national and/or international committees and forums
or other evidence of having advanced their field of study or professional
practice at the national/international level;
g. service to the community external to Mount Royal University associated with
the Nominee’s responsibilities at Mount Royal University;
h. the completed Nomination Form with a summary of the nomination and
statement of support;
i.
Letters of support (maximum of three), including one from the Dean of the
Nominee’s home Faculty.
1.4.
Nominations shall also provide a description of the N
ominee’s continuing
association with Mount Royal University.
1.5.
Nominations may be made at any time but no later than March 15 for Fall
Convocation and December 15 for Spring Convocation.
2.
EVALUATION OF NOMINATIONS
2.1.
The Mount Royal University Honours Committee shall evaluate all nominations.
Its deliberations shall be in camera. Membership for the committee is presented
in Appendix A.
2.2.
The Committee shall meet and make its recommendations at a time that allows for
the recommendations to be considered by the General Faculties Council and the
Board of Governors.
3.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARD
3.1.
The designation
“emeritus/emerita” will be conferred at the regular convocation of
Mount Royal University.
