A.
SCOPE
The following procedures apply for the designation of President, Board Chair and Chancellor
Emeritus/Emerita.
B.
PROCEDURES
1.
NOMINATION
1.1.
Nominations must be made by a current member of the Board of Governors and
submitted in writing to the University Secretariate, address to the Board of
Governors.
1.2.
Nominators will set out the reasons for recommending the award of the
designation. Because the award recognizes meritorious achievements in at least
one of the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, the nomination should
provide evidence of those accomplishments.
1.3.
Nominations may be made at any time within three years of the Nominee’s
completion of their role.
1.4.
Exceptions may be made for Presidents and Board Chairs who served the
University prior to March 2025.
2.
EVALUATION OF NOMINATIONS
2.1.
The Board of Governors will evaluate nominations by considering the following:
a.
Exemplary service to the Board and the University;
b.
Ability and willingness to further the University's external relationships
including willingness to serve as an advocate on behalf of the University and
for its priorities;

c.
Demonstrated capacity and willingness to continue to add value to the
University.
2.2.
The Board of Governors will make the final determination for awarding
emeritus/emerita status to the President, Board Chair or Chancellor.
3.
BENEFITS TO THE RECIPIENT
3.1
The recipient of the award can undertake or continue professional activities and/or
maintain links with Mount Royal University.
3.2
All persons holding the title emeritus/emerita will receive the following privileges:
a. Use of Mount Royal University emeritus/ emerita title.
b. Name and designation included in the Mount Royal University Emeriti Recipients
List.
3.3
The emeritus/emerita title is honorific and does not carry with it any entitlement to
authority, rights or University resources. There are no formal duties and there is
no remuneration associated with the title of emeritus/emerita.
4.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARD
4.1
The designation
“emeritus/emerita” may be conferred at the regular convocation
of Mount Royal University or in an alternative manner as determined by the
President or their designate.

Governors:
means the Board of Governors of Mount Royal University
(2)
Nominee:
means the person being nominated for the Emeritus/ Emerita
designation
(3)
Nominator:
means the department(s), organizational unit(s) most closely
associated with the work of the Nominee, or a group of individuals
who support the nomination. The Nominee may not be the
Nominator.
