Proposal Approval
- Any member of the University community may propose that an existing policy be revised or a new policy be created.
- For a revision to an existing policy, the individual seeks agreement from the policy's Office of Administrative Responsibility, in consultation with the University Secretariat.
- For a new policy, the individual may propose an Office of Administrative Responsibility and seek their agreement, in consultation with the University Secretariat.
- The individual, with the approval of the Policy Sponsor in the case of a revision to a policy, or the proposed Policy Sponsor in the case of a new policy, completes a Proposal for a New or Revised Policy Template that will outline the rationale, timeframe for development, implications, and key considerations during consultation.
- The Proposal for a New or Revised Policy Template is located on the policy and procedures website, or by contacting the University Secretariat.
- The individual through the University Secretariat, submits the proposal to Dean's Council (DC) to seek approval.
- DC reviews the proposal and determines its merits. If there is agreement, development of the policy will begin.
- In the case of a new policy, DC will assign the proposed policy with a Policy Sponsor, either in agreement with the proposal or with a Policy Sponsor as determined by DC.
- The Policy Sponsor is either the President or a Vice-President and may delegate the responsibility for drafting a Policy as well as a communication plan and implementation plan.
- DC may provide advice at this time regarding how the development of the policy should occur and any additional stakeholders that may be engaged during development.
- The original, signed, proposal is returned to the University Secretariat and a copy will be included in the final policy package to be approved by the appropriate Approval Authority.
