In today’s challenging labour market, employers are giving more weight to human resources issues such as recruitment and retention.
The BBA’s practical focus builds on theory, preparing you to manage recruitment and training programs, develop and oversee occupational health and safety initiatives, create and implement compensation and benefit packages, take the lead in effective employee relations programs, interpret and apply changing human resources law and participate in organizational planning.
Small- and medium-sized enterprise
While many commerce degrees focus on big business, the BBA also gives you insight into the exciting world of small- and medium-sized enterprise, which currently generates more than 80% of new jobs in Canada.
The Human Resources major prepares you for a variety of Human Resource Management positions. Your job title could be:
- Human resources specialist
- Payroll and benefits manager

Mount Royal's courses are recognized by several professional bodies, including the Human Resources Association of Calgary, the Human Resources Institute of Alberta, the Certified Benefits Specialist Association and the Canadian Compensation Association. The Human Resources major gives you the academic and practical foundation to work in HR and, if you choose, pursue professional certification as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
Build on your diploma
Mount Royal Business Administration diploma students (current and alumni), as well as diploma students from post-secondary institutions across Alberta, can receive credit towards a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
The BBA prepares you for Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs as well as other graduate studies.
