Chellan Hoffman, CRCCO, BEd, BMus, MMus Chellan has over thirty years experience as a church musician and collaborative keyboardist. She is the music director at Knox United Church in downtown Calgary – a building which doubles as a stunning performance venue for community and international musicians. There she directs the Knox Choir and the Knox Random Ringers (handbells).
Since moving from Saskatchewan to Calgary in 1992, Chellan has worked as assistant/associate organist at Christ Church Elbow Park and assistant music director at Grace Presbyterian Church. As a freelance musician, she has worked with community theatre companies, schools, numerous church choirs, and has performed with ensembles that include the Regina Symphony and Chorus, Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, Luminous Voices, Spiritus Chamber Choir, Kensington Sinfonia, and Foothills Brass Quintet. Chellan is an organ instructor at Mount Royal Conservatory and a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary.
As a volunteer, Chellan gives much of her time to The Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO), a national organization that promotes and supports all things organ. Currently, she is Centre President for Calgary, national Vice President, and Chair of the Editorial Committee – which publishes the national quarterly magazine, Organ Canada.
An enthusiastic advocate for the pipe organ, Chellan works with her husband Steve Miller (organ tuner/technician), and with local organists, music institutions, and churches to introduce Calgary’s unique, historic, and ‘new’ instruments to the public through walking tours, demonstrations, recitals, silent movies, and more.
Chellan enjoys creating community and connecting people together through artistic collaborations and outside-the-box projects.
