Dustyn Richardson
Clarinet/Woodwinds Instructor
Dustyn Richardson is a Canadian freelance woodwind player specializing in flutes, clarinets, saxophone and oboe. He is equally as comfortable playing in a big band or “top-40” group as he is in a chamber ensemble or Broadway/symphony orchestra. He is graduate of the University of Calgary (Bachelor of Music in Secondary Music Education) and New Jersey City University (Master of Music in Multiple Woodwind Performance) the latter which afforded him to study with some of the top freelance classical and commercial musicians in the New York City/tri-state area including Bob Malach (saxophone), Dr. Ed Joffe (multiple woodwinds), Jeanne Wilson (Hartford Symphony), Tanya Dusevic-Witec (New York City Ballet Orchestra) and Kathy Fink (flute/piccolo), Dr. John Cipolla and Gerhardt Koch (clarinet) and Joel Wesikopf, Joe Magnarelli and Pete McGuinness (jazz). He spent over a decade in the New York City area freelance performing, studying and teaching on the woodwind instruments. This led to him subbing on over twenty Broadway shows and being chair holder for two of his own shows (Prince of Broadway and Disney’s Frozen).
He is also past audition winner and substitute musician for the “lead reed” chair of the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. Other freelance activities include regularly performing as an extra musician (saxophones) with the New York City Ballet Orchestra both at Lincoln Center at their summer home in Saratoga Springs. In addition to these activities, Dustyn did studio work for TV, film and jingles for FX/AMC and NBC including live for TV musicals (Annie Live!). Recently, Dustyn relocated back to Calgary with his wife and has continued teaching, performing and contributing that which he gleaned from his time abroad to the local music scene.
