Sarah MacDonald

Sarah MacDonald is a Juno nominated artist with extensive experience as a soloist, orchestral player, and chamber musician. Born and raised in Calgary, Sarah left home to study the flute abroad both in Europe and the United States with some of the world’s most renowned teachers. Sarah plays regularly with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as a guest musician and has served as acting assistant principal flute for several seasons. She is especially proud to be a soloist on the Luminous Voices album “Sea Dreams”, nominated for a Juno in 2020. Recently Sarah has performed as a soloist with the Kensington Sinfonia, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Luminous Voices, University of Lethbridge, and King’s University.
Sarah’s reputation as a teacher extends throughout Alberta. She has served as the flute instructor for the University of Lethbridge since 2008. Additionally, she maintains a private studio in Calgary and serves as faculty for the MusiCamp Alberta at Red Deer Polytechnic. Many of Sarah’s students have gone on to pursue both undergraduate and graduate degrees at some of Canada’s finest institutions. Sarah is also a co-founder of Green Banana Flute Studios, a partnership with CPO principal flutist Sara Hahn-Scinocco, committed to exploring excellence and wellness in the music industry. Sarah is delighted to be the newly appointed woodwind facilitator for the Academy at APP program at Mount Royal University, beginning in the fall of 2022.
Sarah holds a BMus from the University of Calgary, MMus from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester England and an Artist Diploma from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.
