Mount Royal's Zhi-Yin Choir, an Alberta registered non-profit organization established in 2004, has been actively involved in the Calgary community especially in the local Chinese communities. Under the directorship of its founder and conductor Shana Yang, the Choir has grown to consist of over 60 enthusiastic choral music lovers.
Zhi-Yin Choir is a mixed-voice adult choir. Its main focus is on popular and classical music with Chinese being the most commonly used language. The name of the Choir 'Zhi-Yin' means friends in music, it is the wish for the Choir to share experience and cooperation in music in order to build friendships and to promote multiculturalism in Canada.
Zhi-Yin provides vocal coaching to all of their members through its music conductor and invited guest speakers. The Choir has been active in hosting concerts in Calgary annually and has also participated in concerts in other cities such as Edmonton, Vancouver and New York over the past years.
