We are happy to offer direct billing for massage therapy, chiropractic care and physiotherapy with the following providers:

• Alberta Blue Cross
• Great West Life (i.e. Canada Life)
• SunLife
• Green Shield

Please check your plan for specific coverage and reimbursement information.

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) patients are welcome at the MRU Injury and Prevention Clinic. Please bring any forms provided to you by insurance so that we can direct bill your insurance company for MVA-related care for massage, chiropractic care and physiotherapy.

Full-time students (minimum 9 credits) who are under the Student Health and Dental Benefit Plan receive coverage through Great West Life Insurance for the following services:

• Chiropractic
• Athletic Therapy*
• Massage Therapy*
• Physical Therapy*
• Orthotics*

* Require a doctor's referral to get reimbursed

Coverage details:

• Claim up to $25 per visit – usually direct billed to your plan
• $400 per service per benefit year (September 1 through August 31)
• Orthotics are covered at $150 per foot, per benefit year

International students need to see a doctor for a referral. Contact Health Services at 403.440.6326 or visit the clinic to book an appointment. We require your Guard Me health card at the time of appointment.

The employee and faculty Extended Health Benefit Plans provide excellent coverage and reimbursement through Sun Life Insurance. You can claim the following services without a physician's referral:

• Massage Therapy
• Chiropractic Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Athletic Therapy
• Acupuncture with a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Custom orthotics require a medical referral for the employee plan. Orthotics can be claimed under Sun Life's medical equipment benefit (80% of the cost).

Coverage details:

• $500 per year, up to 80% per visit
• This benefit renews on January 1 and ends on December 31 each year

A Health Spending Account can be used for any of our services once your Extended Health Benefits have run out. Full-time employees and faculty members can opt to receive up to $1000 per year under their Health Spending Account.

If you opt out of the employee and faculty Extended Health Benefit Plan, direct billing is still available for chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage therapy, and acupuncture services with the following providers:

• Alberta Blue Cross
• Great West Life (i.e. Canada Life)
• Green Shield
