What is the Student Investment Fund?
The Mount Royal Student Investment Fund (SIF) is a new and transformative student experience. This experience offers real-world exposure in finance through the careful analysis and trading of conservative investments. Open to students from all faculties, for the first half of the two-year program students act as sector analysts, generating investment ideas to pitch to the second-years, who represent the “senior management” of the fund. Students study opportunities in different industries, selecting potential companies after extensive research, while performing analysis based on ethics and compliance with best practices. Ideas must be defended in weekly meetings, where the debate is rigorous, and investment decisions are based on a majority vote by the entire team.
Year 1
In the first half of the program, students act as sector analysts. They are each assigned a sector to analyze and generate investment ideas to pitch to the team. Their pitches include a comprehensive analysis of the company and sector, and they work with senior management to generate financial models.
Year 2
In the second half of the program, students are assigned roles that represent the "senior management" of the fund. They work closely with the sector analysts to successfully manage the SIF portfolio and make decisions on the investment ideas of the sector analysts.
