Chi Dara, PhD, MSc Arch, ENV SP

Dr. Chi Dara holds a PhD in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary, and a
Master’s degree in Sustainable Architecture Studies from the University of Sheffield, England.
She is a design educator, researcher, and sustainable architect with close to 10 years teaching
experience. She has published most of her research work in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
and conference proceedings. Prior to her position at MRU, she served as a full-time professor at
Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Ontario, and taught
sustainability-related courses at the University of Calgary, School of Architecture, Planning, and
Landscape. Additionally, she has industry experience, having worked as a Senior Sustainability
Specialist at WSP and Entuitive. Chi’s interests in teaching and scholarship include sustainable
design practices, human-centered design, and a whole life cycle approach to design decisions.
Her current research focuses on developing a framework for carbon-neutral products/materials
and buildings from a life cycle perspective. She is also passionate about developing tools and
methodologies for integrating sustainability at program level.
