Statement on the invasion of Ukraine
March 8, 2022
Mount Royal University stands with the Governments of Canada and Alberta, and so many others around the world in solidarity with the people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against invasion.
Alberta is home to so many people of proud Ukrainian heritage. MRU students, faculty and staff with connections to Ukraine and to Russia are naturally angry, saddened and worried over these acts of violence. We also have students and employees who may not have a direct connection to Ukraine but are shocked, outraged or fearful of what is happening and what may happen.
Mount Royal faculty in policy studies, business, psychology and more are contributing to the public conversation on this shocking conflict, providing commentary and analysis to try to make sense of this situation as it continues to unfold. This is a critical role for universities as community thought leaders as we also turn to each other for support.
Please get the support you need. Students can access crisis support through Wellness Services or by calling 403.440.8877. For employees, Homewood Health staff are available to take your call 24/7. To speak to someone in confidence, access crisis services (24 hours a day) or book an appointment call 1.800.663.1142.
MRU has a team of chaplains and faith representatives connecting to a variety of faith traditions. A full list of chaplains serving the MRU community, including their contact information, is available here.
Members of the campus community may also wish to donate to the Canadian Red Cross and its Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
