Calgary Pride establishes 2SLGBTQIA+ award for first-year Mount Royal University students
Aug. 30, 2023
A new award for LGBTQ2S+ students at Mount Royal University, founded by Calgary Pride, will promote equality and the development of a just and inclusive society through continual learning.
The Destined Changemaker Award is intended to assist members of the LGBTQ2S+ community who wish to continue their education while reducing barriers to education and strengthening its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality.
The award of up to $5,000 will go to two full-time LGBTQ2S+ students entering the first year of any degree program at Mount Royal University, with a preference for those students from rural communities who may have additional obstacles.
This endeavor will allow Calgary Pride to distribute partnership funding to students from vulnerable communities, with an emphasis on supporting 2SLGBTQ+ students from rural areas that are demonstrated leaders, volunteers, and community advocates.
Calgary Pride's vision is a city free from discrimination against gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. The Destined Changemaker Award celebrates diversity through respect and dignity and empowers LGBTQ2S+ students to succeed. Learn more about Calgary Pride.
Mount Royal will be well represented at this year’s Pride Parade and continues work to “embed the celebration of Pride year-round in our institutional culture, policies and programs,” says Dr. Moussa Magassa, MRU’s AVP of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
