Chris Lee named MRU’s next Board of Governors chair
The provincial government appointed Chris Lee as the chair of the Board of Governors at Mount Royal University. His three-year term began Dec. 1.
Lee brings a wealth of experience to the role, including service on the Board of Governors since 2019 and, most recently as interim chair since the departure of former chair Alex Pourbaix in October 2023.

Chris has brought a thoughtful, inclusive and informed approach to Board matters over the past years,” says Mount Royal President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Tim Rahilly, PhD. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Chair and Board as we strive towards the University’s vision as set out in the MRU Strategic Plan— opening minds and changing lives.”
Lee holds the distinction of being a former leader of the Deloitte & Touche LLP National Litigation Support Committee and the former President, Vice-President and executive member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba, a Chartered Accountant designation for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba and a Chartered Business Valuator designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
The Board of Governors is responsible for guiding the future of the institution and is accountable for ensuring public funds are used in a fiscally responsible manner. The province appoints members of the public to boards of post-secondary institutions to represent the interests of Albertans.
