Inclusion Week focuses on meaningful dialogue and action
Co-creating belonging on campus is the theme of Mount Royal University’s first ever Inclusion Week that will highlight diverse students, faculty and staff and some special guests.
The inaugural event, organized by MRU’s Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion, is inviting the campus community to engage in meaningful dialogue and action towards building a more inclusive future.
“EDIA (Equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility) is an imperative for any democratic society because it centres the experiences and voices of all community members,” said Dr. Moussa Magassa, PhD, Associate Vice-President, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, at Mount Royal.
“The theme of 'co-creating belonging on campus' demonstrates the need to engage in meaningful dialogue and action towards building a more inclusive campus and society.”
Magassa calls EDIA “a gift of humanity we give to each other just because we all need structural barriers removed, our diversity represented in the workplace and campus, being included in decisions that affect our overall well-being, and above all, to have un-compromised access to all spaces and opportunities.”
Over the course of Inclusion Week, beginning March 18, a range of speakers will lead sessions to enrich understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and topics, foster powerful learning and learn tools for change. Inclusion Week’s guest speaker is Dr. Handel Wright, PhD, senior advisor to UBC's President on anti-racism and inclusive excellence.
