MRU faculty members recognized as Compelling Calgarians
Two Mount Royal professors are being recognized by the Calgary Herald as Compelling Calgarians. Each year the newspaper and website publishes a list of 20 Calgarians “worth keeping an eye on in the year ahead.” It notes that many of “their achievements are significant but sometimes outside of the public spotlight.”
In years past, President and Vice-Chancellor Tim Rahilly, PhD, along with other faculty, students, and alumni have been named to the list. MRU is proud to see two faculty members named as 2025’s Compelling Calgarians.
Victoria Bucholtz
History professor Victoria Bucholtz, PhD, is making an impact both on and off campus. On campus she is known for her deep knowledge of German and military history, gender theory and history of emotions. Off campus, she is known to many as Karla Marx, drag artist and burlesque entertainer. Over the last year Bucholtz has become an outspoken transgender rights activist, co-founding Queer Citizens United. She is also the co-founder of the Queer Education Foundation and has taken on the role of Alberta organizer for Momentum. On top of all that, Bucholtz also hosted the first Japanese International Burlesque Festival, had a sold out run for her first theatre production, did her third European tour and hosted Calgary’s Great Outdoors Comedy Festival.
