Scholarly Interests:

I am a philosopher who works on pragmatist approaches to mind, meaning, and agency, animated by the question of the place of human reason in the natural world. As such, my work engages with issues in contemporary philosophy of mind and language in interaction with work on historical pragmatist philosophers -- in particular Dewey, Peirce, and Sellars -- and German idealists, particularly Kant and Hegel. In general, my work takes place at the intersection of pragmatism, German idealism, and analytic philosophy.

Teaching Statement:

In my General Education courses, I aim to bring my distinctively philosophical approach, combined with my wide-ranging interests beyond philosophy, to introduce students to both the most fundamental questions of what it is to be human and, crucially, how to think deeply, creatively, and critically about them. I want to impress upon my students that it is the unique human endowment, privilege, and responsibility to wrangle with ideas about who we are, what matters, and how to live, so that we might live better, do better, and flourish both individually and collectively.
