Winter 2024 Learning Community
Law and Society
This Learning Community consists of two courses (6 credits): GNED 1202 – Texts & Ideas and GNED 1303 – Conflict & the Social Context, exploring the role of law and the justice system in society. Taught by two instructors, it takes an interdisciplinary approach, examining law through philosophical, sociological, historical, and ethical lenses. The course critically analyzes famous trials, particularly Canadian cases, highlighting how law is applied in conflicts. Trials shape lives, policies, and corporate responsibilities while sparking debates on justice, punishment, and state actions. This is not a law survey or prep course but an exploration of law as a social idea.
