Accommodated exams - a guide for students

Midterm tests, quizzes and examinations:

Before you submit an Exam Seating Request for an accommodated assessment, you must communicate your accommodations to your instructor. Any concerns must be resolved before writing in the Accommodated Exam Centre. Please communicate with your instructor and submit your accommodated requests as soon as possible. This allows sufficient time for your instructor to provide your assessment.

Requests to complete assessments in the Accommodated Exam Centre must be submitted at least seven (7) days before the class's writing date. For example, if your assessment date is Monday, your request must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. the previous Monday. Requests submitted past the 7-day notification period will not be approved. We recommend you submit all your Exam Seating Requests once you know their dates.

If your exam writing date is:  You must request by 11:59 p.m. the previous:
Monday Monday
Tuesday Tuesday
Wednesday Wednesday
Thursday Thursday
Friday Friday

Assessments written in Access and Inclusion Services will be seated at 9 a.m., 10 am., 11 a.m., 12 pm., 1 p.m., 2 pm., 3 p.m., 4 pm., or 5 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. There is no 5 p.m. exam seating time on Friday. Accommodate will not allow you to submit an Exam Seating Request if your seating time goes beyond 4:30 pm on Fridays.

Requests to complete assessments in the Accommodated Exam Centre should overlap with the time your class is writing. If an overlap is not possible, speak with your instructor to discuss an alternate seating time, which must be confirmed between your instructor and Access and Inclusion Services. If there are any concerns with your writing at a time that does not overlap with your class, please contact your Access Advisor. Once an alternative seating time has been determined, submit your request using the online Exam Seating Request form.

Once the Exam Scheduler confirms your exam seating request, an email will be sent to you and your instructor. After confirming the accuracy of the assessment information, the instructor must provide Access and Inclusion Services with a copy of your assessment at least three (3) business days before the scheduled assessment.

We understand that submitting requests can be complicated. Please follow the instructions carefully in the Student Guide. If you still have questions please call our main office at 403-440-6868.

Final examinations

All of the procedures above apply to final examinations, with the following exceptions:

  • Submit your final exam seating request as soon as the Registrar's Office releases the final exam schedule.
  • Final exam seatings are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited space, you may be booked on a day or time that does not overlap with your class.
  • Students risk not being able to write with Access and Inclusion Services if they miss the seven (7) day deadline for submitting a request.
  • For Final Exams, the deadline is seven (7) calendar days before the last day of classes. Please refer to the AIS Dates & Deadlines page for the exact date.
  • Final exam seatings are 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday (inclusive) during the final exam period.

Note: for additional information or questions about the accommodated examination process, contact Access and Inclusion Services.
