Protected Ground Accommodation Request Guidelines 

This page contains information about accessing accommodations or exceptions relating to a protected ground other than disability or religious observation.

Applying for a Protected Ground Accommodation

Before submitting an accommodation request, students should:

    1. Confirm that their request is not related to a disability. If the request is related to disability, students must complete the process as outlined here.
    2. Confirm that their request is not related to religious observation. If the request is related to religious observation, students must complete the process as outlined here.
  • Not be seeking accommodations for Nursing, Midwifery, or Athletic Therapy. Students seeking accommodations relating to placements in these programs must follow the instructions outlined here for their program. 

Please note:

  • Access and Inclusion Services may require documentation. Please ensure you have the necessary documentation to avoid delaying the process.

Common Situations That May Not Qualify for Accommodation

Transportation
Students are responsible for arranging their transportation to and from classes, clinics, practicums, internships, etc. 


Financial Situation
Financial challenges, including those related to family, transportation, classes, and travel costs, do not qualify for accommodation. Students are expected to proactively learn about, access, and utilize loans, grants, scholarships, and other funding opportunities.


PLEASE NOTE:

  • Students must submit a Public Request as part of the Access and Inclusion Services Protected Ground Accommodation process. Please click here to submit your Public Request. 
  • Students must complete the “Accommodation Request for a Protected Ground” form with as much detail as possible. Students who provide incomplete information or do not provide enough detail in their request will be asked to resubmit. 
  • Protected Grounds requests require time for review and processing. Please submit your request as far in advance as possible to allow time for its careful review. 
  • Students submitting a request for accommodations for Other Protected Grounds may be required to meet with the Access Advisors who process these requests. 
  • Accommodation requests for Other Protected Grounds must be submitted each year. They will only apply for the semesters listed on the letter. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they submit their requests each year.
