The Dr. Joy Calkin student awards will be awarded to a senior undergraduate student (currently in first semester of 4th year), an Indigenous graduate or 4th year undergraduate student (currently in first semester of 4th year) studying any aspect of early childhood (generally children under six years of age) or an issue related to children and childhood, and a third award to a graduate student who has not yet completed their program.
The awards are named in memory of Dr. Joy Calkin, a pediatric nurse and health care advocate, funded by the Muttart Family Foundation and created to honour and build on the Hon. Landon Pearson’s children’s rights advocacy work and life-long dedication to developing a culture of respect for children’s rights in Canada.

2024-25 Francine and Gerison Lansdown Undergraduate and Graduate Student Essay PrizesThe awards are named to honour Francine Lansdown, who was committed to improving the lives of young people and making a difference in the world, and her mother Gerison Lansdown, an international children’s rights advocate, both cherished friends of the Centre. The awards aim to supportstudents engaged in children’s rights research and advocacy, and to encourage critical thinking about children’s rights issues. Students are invited to submit essays that focus on the broad theme of children’s rights and mental health, girls’ rights, health, and climate change.
Essay contest winners will be presented with their award at the Child Rights Academic Network Conference hat Carleton University on April 25, 2025. Additionally, winning essays will be considered for publication in the Canadian Journal of Children’s Rights, youth, and graduate student sections; the issue is released in November 2025.

Branch Out Neurological Foundation - Undergraduate Summer Research Grant
The Branch Out Neurological Foundation is a registered charity that provides grant funding for students and researchers at partnering universities in Canada who are leading the way for innovation by exploring non-pharmaceutical treatments and alternative technologies (neuroCAM*) for neurological disorders. Their undergraduate grant is a summer research studentship opportunity for neuroCAM studies at partnering universities. Dare to Dream Award
Soroptimist Dare to Dream Award for Women is a cash award that recipients may use to offset any costs associated with their efforts to obtain an education, including books, tuition, transportation and more. The award is directed at single women who are supporting themselves through school i.e. not living at home with parents, and who want to upgrade their education at a university or college, or who, for whatever reason, find that they are lacking in the basic education of high school diploma, or are new to Canada and must improve their English education in order to enter the workforce in their chosen field. It also targets women who find themselves lacking in the skills needed to find a better career, so want to enter a skills training program.

CSA Group Undergraduate Research Scholarship
The purpose of the CSA Group Undergraduate Research Scholarship is to support undergraduate students in the pursuit of novel research related to standards. The research is to be conducted over a summer term under the direct supervision of an academic advisor. Undergraduate degree students studying at a publicly-funded, accredited Canadian college or university in their second year of study or higher are eligible to apply.
The research can be conducted in any field (e.g., engineering, social sciences, health sciences) and must include standards as a central component of the research. The research may investigate aspects of an existing standard or may explore an area for future standards development. The topic does not need to be related to an area where CSA Group already has standards.
