Cybersecurity Champion FAQs
How much time you spend on the role depends on you and your team. Some champions spend less than an hour a week, checking the newsletter, checking to see what their teams are doing and forwarding messages from the ITS cybersecurity team. Other champions spend up to two hours a week creating materials and spreading cybersafety messages. However, on average you can expect to spend two hours a month. The exception is if you choose to work on special projects and Cybersecurity Awareness Month which occurs every October.
No, you only need to have an interest in cybersecurity. Training and support is provided for you. It takes no time at all to increase your cybersecurity knowledge.
Each Champion provides cybersecurity support in a way that respects and utilitzes the unique culture and strengths of their team. No two teams are the same so no two Champions perform their role in the same way. Some are more active, some are less. However, all Champions at minimum, perform the following duties:
- Model cybersafe behavior.
- Complete cybersecurity awareness training.
- Subscribe to the Cybersecurity Newsletter.
- Encourage colleagues to complete cybersecurity awareness training.
- Encourage colleagues to subscribe to the Cybersecurity Newsletter.
- Keep up to date on quarterly meetings
- Keep their team informed of the latest cybersecurity threats.
- Inform the IT Security Training Analyst of cybersecurity concerns.
