Review MRU's emergency procedures below to help prepare you for specific emergencies that may arise on campus. An active assailant is an individual posing an immediate threat of death or harm to others. If faced with an active assailant on campus, your first and best option is to RUN and escape the threat by the shortest and safest means possible. See more.
Treat all alarms as real and evacuate when you hear the fire alarm or when directed by Security Services or an Emergency Warden. When evacuating, take any personal belongings if they are easily accessible. Walk to the nearest emergency exit. Remain calm and do not run. See more.
If the emergency is or is potentially life threatening, call 911 immediately and direct someone else to call Security Services at 403.440.5900. Approach the injured person only if it is safe to do so. Do not move an injured person unless it is essential for their safety. Only provide first aid if you are trained and it is safe to do so. Stay on the phone with 911 and follow their instructions until emergency personnel arrive. See more.
In the event of severe weather or other outdoor hazard, you may be instructed to Shelter in Place. If so, take shelter indoors, close doors and windows, and stay away from exterior walls and windows. Remain sheltered until emergency services gives the "all clear". See more.
If you encounter a suspicious person or package, trust your instincts, ensure your own personal safety, and report it to Security Services when safe to do so. For crimes in progress, call 911. See more.
