Assistant Professor

Dr. Amanda Williams is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Studies at Mount Royal University, where she also coordinates the common communication courses. Passionate about research, teaching, and helping others become effective communicators, she teaches subjects such as communication theory, research methods, and media history.

Dr. Williams' research interests include entrepreneurship, particularly related to women and youth, sustainability, new media, metaphor and discourse, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). As a member of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Canada Team, she works with an international research consortium that collects data directly from individual entrepreneurs.

Holding a Master’s degree in Sociology from Queen's University and a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary, Dr. Williams has also worked as a policy analyst for the Government of Canada in Ottawa and Vancouver. Additionally, she served as a visiting youth researcher for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
