Dr. Carlos Fiorentino is a design researcher and educator with over 20 years of professional practice and 15 years in academia. He was born in La Plata, Argentina, and graduated with a degree in Visual Communication Design from UNLP. In 2008, he completed his Master’s in Design, and in 2020, his Ph.D. in Human Ecology, both at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is currently a professor in the Department of Information Design at Mount Royal University in Canada. Carlos has taught design courses in the Department of Art & Design at the University of Alberta, at Grant MacEwan University (Canada), and more recently at Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates. His current research focuses on color studies, biomimicry, sustainable design, information design, and design education. He co-founded Biomimicry Alberta (2010), introduced the first courses in Sustainable Design at the University of Alberta (2010–2015), served as an advisor to the Sustainability Education Management Committee at Grant MacEwan University (2015), and contributed to creating Alberta’s first interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum (Grant MacEwan University, 2016). Carlos has presented his work at conferences and published articles and book chapters internationally.
